Meet Justine Mallinson

I’m delighted to be introduced as the new Retrofit Coordinator for Bruton and Castle Cary.

I have been employed in the Energy Efficiency industry for the last 14 years. Initially I trained as a Home Inspector, so have a background in building pathology. I gained an MSc at the Graduate School of the Environment in Sustainability and Adaptation Planning in the Built Environment. I am a qualified and accredited Domestic Energy Assessor, Retrofit Assessor and Retrofit Coordinator under the PAS2035 standards, and am registered with the TrustMark Quality Scheme. My employment history includes working for multiple Local Authorities on their social housing stock, and I have joined Bruton from Severn Wye Energy Agency where I specialised in retrofit and trouble-shooting energy and damp issues in private households.

Reducing energy consumption is not just about installing insulation or solar panels. Damp houses use more energy, and an element of my role will be to investigate damp issues and give you the information to overcome these, and to ensure that recommended energy efficiency measures do not exacerbate any problems. Draughty houses also leak energy, and so a strategy encompassing this is also a component of my work.

I champion holistic retrofitting, using low carbon sustainable materials to provide energy efficient homes without further damaging the environment, the aesthetic heritage of our neighbourhoods or the fabric of our homes.  I am impassioned about educating and engaging communities and individuals about retrofitting to understand and tackle the work needed.
